In a remarkable display of community spirit and medical excellence, the recent medical outreach initiative in Delta State has significantly impacted the lives of many underserved individuals. Organized in collaboration with the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, the Dr. Isioma Okobah Foundation and the First Delta American Hospital (FDAH), this initiative provided essential healthcare services to the communities of Igbodo, Onicha Ugbo, and Ezi from May 28th to June 1st, 2024.
Day 1 and 2: Igbodo Outreach
The medical outreach commenced in Igbodo with a two-day event at Obi’s Palace. Over 1000 individuals received vital medical care. The event was graced by the Obi of Igbodo, HRM (Barr.) Ikechukwu Nkeobikwu Osedume 1, who also received medical attention.
During these two days, numerous sick children, who had been suffering in silence due to lack of access to medical care, were seen by our compassionate healthcare professionals. Many of these children were diagnosed with common but potentially serious illnesses such as malaria and respiratory infections. They received the necessary medications and treatments, bringing much-needed relief to both the children and their anxious parents.
In addition to the children, many elderly women, burdened by age-related ailments, also received thorough medical check-ups and care. These women, often the backbone of their families, had been enduring conditions like hypertension and arthritis without proper treatment. The outreach provided them with essential medications and advice on managing their health, rekindling their hope for a better quality of life.
The success of the Igbodo outreach was a testament to the dedication and expertise of the medical professionals involved. Special gratitude goes to Dr. Isioma Okobah, whose vision and leadership were instrumental in making this initiative a reality.
Day 3: Onicha Ugbo Outreach.
The outreach continued at the Onicha Ugbo Health Center on May 31st, 2024. The health center was bustling with activity as residents eagerly took advantage of the free healthcare services provided. The turnout was remarkable and the dedication of the healthcare professionals was evident as they worked tirelessly to provide high-quality care.
Day 4: Ezi Outreach.
The final day of the outreach took place at Obi’s Palace in Ezi on June 1st, 2024. The community’s response was enthusiastic, with numerous residents receiving vital medical attention. The outreach in Ezi continued the mission of improving health outcomes by providing comprehensive healthcare services. Additionally, the Obi of Ezi, HRM Agbogidi Obi Mohanyem 1, honored the event with his presence, received medical attention, and was presented with a commemorative T-shirt.
Services provided in all the places, included:
- Eye Screenings: Free eye glasses and treatment for various eye conditions.
- Medical Check-ups: Thorough health assessments and disease treatment.
- Health Education: Information on preventive healthcare and healthy living.
- Free Medications: Distribution of essential drugs to treat diagnosed conditions and more.
