According to Reuters, Palestinian medical officials and residents pointed out that the new Israeli strikes targeted tents of displaced families in the designated humanitarian area in Mawasi in western Rafah.

Twenty-one Palestinians have been killed and dozens wounded in new Israeli strikes on an area housing displaced people West of Rafah on Tuesday.

According to Reuters, Palestinian medical officials and residents pointed out that the new Israeli strikes targeted tents of displaced families in the designated humanitarian area in Mawasi in western Rafah.

At least 12 of those killed were women, medical officials said.

According to local health officials, the strikes hit the same area where Israel targeted what it said was a Hamas compound on Sunday night.

Sunday’s attack started a fire in a camp for displaced Palestinians and killed at least 45 people, according to Sky News.

Meanwhile, the health ministry in Gaza said Tuesday that at least 36,096 people had been killed in the territory since October 2023 when Israel launched a retaliatory war against Hamas militants.

According to the health ministry, the toll includes at least 46 deaths over the past 24 hours.

It said 81,136 people had been wounded in Gaza since the war began.

Israel has continued to carry out deadly air strikes on Rafah despite the order of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that it should immediately halt its operation there.

Israel has denied allegations made by South Africa at the ICJ that it is committing genocide against Palestinians.

It has insisted that its war is against Hamas militant group which attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people and taking approximately 250 hostages.
